The Spy Who Dumped Me - 3.5/5

Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon were the perfect cinematic match in this movie. The studios knew their target audience for this and they were not afraid to give women (and perhaps gay men), the perfect dose of laughter, a fabulous wardrobe, an engaging storyline and eye candy (they put Justin Theroux and Sam Heughan in a film together and made them both be into Kunis..seriously) With a title like 'The spy who dumped me' - it is easy to just roll your eyes and think of this as a lame chick flick. But that's not a right assumption. From the very beginning, Kunis and McKinnon grace the screen with a hilarious entrance and it only gets better from there. The last 5 years have had some really good 'spy/adventure/espionage' type movies with female leads. 'Heat' with Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy was clever, 'Spy' with Melissa McCarthy and Rose Byrne was comedic gold, and 'Hot Pursuit' with Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara - though not on the same vein as the other two, was still quite entertaining. This film may not be as good as Heat or Spy, but it is still cleverly executed. The story-line kept giving us surprises, McKinnon's comedic timings were fantastic, and Gillian Anderson's supporting role as the 'Beyonce of the CIA' was the cherry on top. My only criticism of this film would be its length - but that would always be my opinion for any film over 90 minutes. I would recommend this film if you are after something fun - there is a bit of violence and action, but the overall adventure will make you forget that bit.
